Holly Springs Christmas Parade

On December 12, Clara met her friends Braydon and Hayden and went to the Holly Springs Holiday Parade. It was a chilly morning. But they had lots of fun. Hayden even took a nap.

Clara loved the little race cars and she loved the bands. Some photos from our outing.

Disclaimer: Don't worry the candy only stayed in their mouths long enough to shoot the photos. So they did not get to find out what sugar tastes like.

Another milestone

Writing this so I don't forget. On Monday, December 28 Clara pulled herself up to a standing position. She had just woken up from a nap (or was she just playing in the crib?) and was ready to get out of her crib and she pulled herself up.

She is working real hard to do it again and she wants to walk so bad. I am glad she has that determination to learn this stuff.

Happy New Year Everybody!

More loves and one more dislike

More loves:
her soft cuddly stuffed animals
her cat in the hat stuffed animal
sports (football, hockey, and basketball are her favorites)

dislike:
pooping (sorry, she will hate me later for admitting to the world that she does not like to poop)

And I don't know if this should go under loves or dislikes but she loves to pull socks off her feet (and others so watch out) so she dislikes wearing them (and shoes don't last long either).

I thought that was something all babies did but I don't see others pulling socks like Clara. Guess that is her fetish.

Nine Months

Clara turned nine months on December 1. Four days later she crawled and said her first word. She is a little girl now.

Her loves:
The Redskins (not a good year to be a fan, though)
her dog Bear
her security blankets
going to sleep on daddy
crawling
talking
bath time
her rubber duckies during bath time
daycare and her friends Braydon and Jack
being swung around in the air and flying high in the sky

Her dislikes:
nap time
waking up for daycare in the mornings
bath time ending

She loves to learn and just looks at everything. It is so much fun to see her take in the world.

First word

Clara said her first word. Saturday, December 5 around 11:30am, she said "daddy." Now she says it all the time. And when you say "mommy" to her, she just goes "daddy."

We were getting ready to go buy a live Christmas tree and she was babbling away in her carseat and I heard "daaaddyyy." And then I heard it again. I turned to Mike and said, she said daddy. So to see if she would say it again or if those two times were just flukes, I said daddy and she repeated me. So we were in Home Depot and she just kept going daddy, daddy, daddy.

And...she crawls! I'd say her first day of crawling was also Saturday, Dec 5. Before that, she would get into the crawling position and try to move forward only falling onto her tummy. Then she would roll up into a seated position or she would scute (how do you spell that word?) herself backwards.

At her nine month check up she was 16lbs 0ozs and 27 (or 27 1/2 inches). I think the height measurement is a little off, though. I think she is taller. And I realized it is all leg today as I was putting pants on her and they were short and her top was huge so her torso must be smaller. She has a small head too, measuring 16 inches. But her brain is huge as she really picks up on stuff like crazy. She is just learning about everything.

Clara, can you stay this age for awhile longer? Love you!

And a photo I stole from my brother in law (who is Jocelyn's dad). Just another cute photo of the youngest Meyer grandchildren (until my sister Sarah has her baby, due on April 8, 2010). You know I cannot post a post without a photo :) .

Eight months

Clara's eight months' birthday, November 1, 2009. She is turning into such a little girl. I had her on the couch one evening and she was just squirming around, and she looked so much older to me. She is not that "lump' she once was around 0-2 months.

She was tired because she spent the morning in Raleigh, watching mommy run her first race post baby (City of Oaks half marathon). Didn't do so bad considering everything...first race post baby, and it was rainy, wet, cold, and windy. I ran a 1:54.

This video was taken around mile 10. Mike says I never look like I am having fun in my races so I smiled and waved to the camera :) .

Pumpkin Patch

The beginning of October, we went to the pumpkin patch to get Clara her first pumpkin. She picked it out all on her own.

She didn't care for the hay too much. But she enjoyed mommy's kisses.

Halloween

Clara's first Halloween was quite eventful. We went to a brunch/potluck at one of the couple's homes from our birth classes last winter. We got to see all the boys :) . Let me say, it was quite different from the first one we went to back in May. All the babies were moving and talking and just doing what 8-10 month old babies do...get into everything.

We will have to "borrow" photos from one of the other couples because I forgot the camera. I am very absent minded these days...

All the babies dressed up in the cutest costumes. We had a turtle, two monkeys, a giraffe, a fish, and Clara was a butterfly.

We then went to Holly Fest in Holly Springs (a fair at the local park). Mike's band had a booth, we said hi, got to see cute Claire (a little girl who is nine days younger than Clara), walked around, and Clara witnessed her first pig race(s). She was more into watching the little kids jump up and down trying to win prizes.

We came home, Clara took a quick nap, and then we all got dressed up for the evening. Clara's first time trick or treating. She got a lot of candy too. I was a caterpillar. Bear was a ladybug (get the bug theme...) and Mike was his scary man again. Oh my, he scared A LOT of kids...it was great!

Isn't she just the cutest butterfly?! :)

Seven months

Seven month photo, October 1, 2009.

Clara sits up real well now.

She was not too happy because I accidentally woke her up from a nap. I was going to take her photo sleeping to show how she spent her birthday but oh well, she had to wake up anyway since it was soon bedtime.

She loves her Cat 'n the Hat. She gives him a lot of kisses and hugs. Thanks Mr. Ray and Ms. De for the Cat n' the Hat.

Solids

Clara's first attempt at eating solids was around five and a half months. It was not very successful. So we held off and tried again later.

The bib is from the Schillings. They are Phillies' fans so it was hard for them to buy this. But, the Braves are the best and Clara knows it. Doesn't she look so cute! :)

Clara's second attempt at solids was right before her six months birthday. She tried rice cereal and enjoyed it!

Beef Stew, yummy....

Wanting to feed herself. mmm, this is pretty good.

5 months

What all has been happening since I last wrote. Clara celebrated her 5 month and 6 month birthdays. She is sitting up on her own now and she is eating solids. She does not care for peas.

It is amazing to watch her grow and change so fast. And so many of her outfits she no longer fits into. She is growing out of them and that is sad :( . I cannot believe she is half a year old. What a cutie and best baby ever.

Our little lady. Happy 5 months to Clara!

Just a bunch of photos...

...since I've been out of touch.

Clara's first pair of high heels. Red too. You go girl, so in fashion. Thanks Eileen and Nick Schilling for the heels...love Clara.

Clara's first trip to the pool. Clara's Aunt Melissa, Uncle Raymond, and cousins Preston and Lila Ann came to visit over Mike's birthday weekend.
Clara loved the pool. She kicked and kicked her legs. She loved it!

Clara and her cousin Preston, June 26, 2009.
Preston was so much fun and Clara loved him. He entertained her like crazy. She surely misses you Preston, come back and visit soon!

4 month photo

Got to get this up there so you can see what she looked like at 4 months. Her 4 month birthday was July 1. Today is Clara's five month birthday.

4 month check up

Clara went in for her four month check up on Wednesday. As she was at two months, she is long and thin. Her length is 25 1/2 inches and her weight is 12lbs 14oz. The doctor said at this rate she will reach 5ft 7in and be slender. Now how can a doctor at a child's four month birthday predict where they will be 20 years down the road...hmmm....

Mike and I just look at each other. We are not tall people. 5' 7" is 3 inches taller than me and about 2 inches shorter than Mike. It must be the genes from my extended family, the Meyer side.

Clara also received about four more shots of I don't know how many vaccines. Hard to keep up with all of it. She is a healthy, well-rounded, happy baby. And boy can we get her to laugh up a storm.

A cute photo to make everyone go aww.... :)

Enjoy!

Mike's first Father's Day

Father's Day found us once again at the Durham Bulls baseball stadium. They played the Pawtucket Red Sox and unfortunately lost. But we had a good time.

Grandma and Grandpa B. spent the day with us and Clara enjoyed herself.

It was kids run the bases night so at least for us the night ended on a good note. Mike took Clara out onto the field and walked all the bases :) .
Mike and Clara are enjoying their summer together. I am glad that he is able to spend this time with her. Thank you Mike for being the bestest dad ever!

Bath time

My office threw me a baby shower in January and one of the presents was a Winnie the Pooh bath towel set. It included a towel, a couple of washclothes, and slippers. Such small slippers :) . We gave Clara a bath so she'd be all clean for Father's Day and I put the slippers on her and wrapped her in the towel. She lounged on the sofa for awhile. Thanks Graduate School for the cute towel and slippers!

Peeking over mommy's shoulder after her bath.
